Joshua Camera is a real estate entrepreneur specializing in the management and development of new residential construction, primarily targeting the high-end rental and sales market. Before focusing entirely on the real estate sector, Camera owned various other businesses, including ventures in the hospitality and wholesale food industries.
Although he is currently based in Amsterdam, Joshua Camera spent his youth in Haren. It was there, in his early twenties, that he started his first business after taking over the local ice cream parlor. He subsequently expanded that single shop into a franchise chain with locations in cities including Amsterdam and Utrecht. In later years, he also added a wholesale business for scoop ice cream. At the same time, he invested the proceeds from these businesses into expanding his real estate portfolio, until it had grown to such an extent by 2017 that Camera made it his core business. He sold his ice cream ventures and intensified his real estate activities.
Camera is therefore best known as the founder, owner and director of real estate developer PEX Real Estate, where 'PEX' is an abbreviation for 'property experts'. Through PEX, Joshua Camera develops, rents out, sells, and manages apartments, as well as family homes, studios, (student) rooms, shops, and offices. Camera focuses these projects on prime locations in major Dutch city centers, primarily in Amsterdam and the northern part of the country.
His focus on sustainability is a hallmark of Joshua Camera's approach. This is especially true for his inner-city projects, where sustainability measures are often less straightforward. Camera seizes every available opportunity; for instance, he uses sustainable building and insulation materials and installs solar panels and heat pumps wherever possible. Despite their often modern design, his projects are also integrated into the existing streetscape. In recent years, Camera has therefore focused PEX on this niche of sustainable inner-city development and expanded his presence in various medium-sized and large cities.
Additionally, Joshua Camera is the host of the podcast‘VastgoedZaken’. In it, he discusses current topics in the real estate sector with guests who, like himself, are in the sector professionals, such as real estate agents, property developers, and investors. Together with his guests, Camera offers tips for novice investors and young entrepreneurs. They share their vision on topics such as rising mortgage interest rates, sustainability, housing shortages, government policy, pension investors, and the future of the housing market. The ‘VastgoedZaken’ podcast now spans several seasons and can be heard on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
